In the late 1920's Marion Jarves Alger and a few friends founded the Neighborhood Thrift Shop to help needy residents in this area. That was the beginning of what has been a successful local non profit business ever since. The Thrift Shop has moved to several different places over the years but has always had the same purpose - to provide money for the Neighborhood Club and good low cost merchandise for the customers.

The Thrift shop is run by a small professional staff along with numerous volunteers who have a choice of  jobs to perform within the store.

They can put out, straighten, and arrange items in the less expensive area.

Those who do not mind handling money can write up purchases and use the cash register.

The other option is to work in the French Room selling the better clothing.

There are often openings for interested volunteers - a weekly or biweekly commitment of 2 1/2  hours is desired.
